Confession Time: I Don't Love the Naked Palettes

I have a confession to make. I don't love the Naked palettes from Urban Decay. I bought the first palette and found it to be too warm for my complexion. So I sold it and bought the Naked2 because it looked better suited to a cool skin tone. I find myself skipping over this palette in my drawer and reaching for my Inglot palettes instead. Most of the shades are too shimmery for me. Personally, I have a hard time putting together a look that works for me with this palette. I really struggle with it and find that I have to mix in an Inglot or MUG shadow.  There was also more fallout than I anticipated. The flat end of the brush is alright but the blending end sucks. I do like the lip gloss that came with it though.

Urban Decay Naked2 Palette
I just sat down and tried to work with this again. I tried two different looks. Unfortunately, I haven't yet mastered the skill of taking a picture of my own eye yet. So no pics sorry. For the first I used Busted (holy fallout Batman) in the crease, Tease across the lid, and BootyCall under the browbone and the inner corner. It came out way too dark and I felt like I had a black eye. Maybe I was just too heavy handed with it.  For the second look I used Pistol in the crease, Verve across the lid, and BootyCall for the browbone and highlight again. I liked this look and found Pistol and Verve easier to work with than Busted. It came out a light silvery smokey look. I liked it though. I didn't love it.

If I'm doing my everyday neutral or for a quick smokey eye, I reach for one of my Inglot palettes. To be fair though, I did hand select all the colors.
Inglot Palettes

I also started using my Inglot palette long before I bought either of the Naked palettes. Maybe I'm just a creature of habit but I think it has more to do with me preferring matte eyeshadows.

So this is palette did not live up to the hype for me. I love UD lipglosses and eyeliners. I have a cheek highlighter that I don't use often but I do like. Maybe UD eyeshadows just aren't for me or I just haven't found the right ones yet. For those of you that love this palette, what are your go to looks? I'd love to hear from you.  I'd especially love to hear from any other really fair cool toned ladies.

  1. To be honest, I've never even tried the Naked palettes because I can't bring myself to spend that much money on shadows that, to me, look BORING.

But to be fair, I'm not big on neutrals and I tend to gravitate more toward lights and brights, so I guess it makes sense that I wouldn't be that interested. :)

    1. I like neutrals and tend to wear them a lot which made me think "hey everyone raves about these Naked Paletees. Let me try it out." *sigh* it just sits in my makeup drawer taking up space. I don't get this combination of neutral and shiny.

  2. When Naked 2 came out I didn't buy into the hype because I thought the colors were too close to the original. I picked up a NYX palette that it is an exact dupe and I'm pleased with it. I find myself going for that more than the original Naked.

I found your blog through the Monday Beauties Blog Hop!

I was starting to feel really weird for not loving the Naked palettes. I'm glad I'm not alone after all. Which NYX palette? I love NYX.

  3. when i went to purchase the first Naked palette, Ulta was sold out so i went with the Too Faced Natural palette. 3 more TF palettes later, i still don't have a Naked in my collection.

    1. I'll have to look into the Too Faced palettes as well. I had one on my wishlist forever.

  4. Don't worry I think I'm the only beauty blogger to never get either of those :) I like the colors in them but I also have a hard time putting together looks that feature a lot of darker/shimmery shadows and prefer to go lighter.

    1. The ratio is just off for me. If I'm going to put together a three color look I want 2 matte and 1 Shimmery. I kinda regret buying this one. I had such high hopes because everyone raves about these palettes. Ah well, at least it shouldn't be hard to sell or trade if I decide to give up on trying to make it work.

  5. I agree! I have a few Urban Decay palettes that I got as gifts. I really, really TRY to like them but I can't. The glitter gets all over my face and looks ridiculous. The matte shadows are okay, I guess. I'm half asian but really pale and tend to get really ruddy, and most of the colors in the Naked palettes just don't look good. I don't know if this sounds weird, but the eyeshadows make my skin look bad.

    1. Thanks for sharing. It's been really comforting to hear that other people just don't find these to be the best palettes ever.

  6. It's not surprising hearing it doesn't fit with all complexions, we all look so different and different colours, shades and textures compliment our features. I would still love to try the palette *for the hype* but I won't rush out to spend almost £40 on just one palette when there are many dupes out there for a cheaper price!

I found you from BlogLoveTherapy Blog Hop - and I'm so glad I did :) xx

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I did wind up selling it. The lady I sold it to absolutely loves it.

I'm following you now as well ;)
